One of my Christmas gifts was a membership to planet fitness.

I actually asked for it and was pretty excited about it.

I like going to the gym, it's a great reason to get out and meet people and more importantly get healthy.

Back in the day (eight months ago) I had lost a lot of weight because I was going to the Y all the time and eating "better."

So today with a new workout hat, I went to Planet Fitness and got on a swanky looking elliptical.

I just forgot one major thing...stretching.

Maybe if I was on a treadmill, it wouldn't have been as bad, but since the elliptical utilizes more muscles than the treadmill, and not stretching, I felt it right away. And it wasn't a burn of intense exercise. No my friends it was as if I was a rusty wheel, moving without oil.

So I was able to go 20 mins, but it wasn't easy. But it will get easier.

Especially if I stretch...

Not even MTv so I can watch a marathon of some tween show.

It's a battle between Judge Mathis and Love Actually....

...Love Actually won.

Can't help it, Kiera Knightly is adorable.

Top five regrets of 07

Oh sweet, sweet top five lists.

I won't lie, this is always one of my highlights of the year. Writing these lists. And it's not because it's such a unique thing. Top (Insert number here) lists are as much of an editorial cliche as you can get it. It's right up there with "What's hot and what's not" (almost always accompanied with a funny graphic of a mercury thermometer), it's pretty much the same five movies/songs/tv shows on every list with the exception of one dark horse to stir controversy.

So my theory is to do the top five things I wish I never experienced of 2007.

Number 1: <strike>The 2007 MTV VMA's </strike>Britney Spears and the 2007 VMA's

"Did you hear? Britney is going to be perform her new song this Sunday?"

"Holy cow? Seriously? OMG! That will be huge, I can't wait to see her!"

(Flashback several months before)

"Did you hear? Britney shaved off all of her hair one night and now the salon is selling her hair, empty can of redbull, and the shears that cut the hair for a million bucks?!"

"Holy cow? Seriously? OMG! She has gone totally insane."

If it weren't for the whole Iraq fiasco that the United States is apart of, it could be argued that this was the year of Britney. If the fallen star of teen icondom even as much as got her nails painted while drinking a frappecino we knew about it.

But it hit it's high mark when in March, Britney shaved her head in either an attempt to audition for "G.I. Jane 2" or a bout of postpartum depression.

And then her stints in rehab. And then it was pretty quiet. Until we heard her new single "Gimme More".
Which I think we all agree was pretty awful.
And that was followed by this

<lj-embed id="39" />

...the VMA performance that we all want to forget. Filled with blantant lipsynching, forgotten dance moves and performance that left us begging for the performances that were filled with blantant lipsynching and memorable dance moves...and snakes.

Do I feel bad for Britney? Absolutely, but seriously I'm Britneyed out.

The VMA's were expecting Britney to boost their show, instead no scandal-scantily-clad songstress could help that train wreck of an awards show. We got performances that could've been awesome, but instead we had to watch them in bits pieces as they used star power like Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, and Linkin Park to name a few to cut to commercials.

The one bright spot was when Justin Timberlake told MTV to play more music. I never thought Justin would be the voice of reason.

2) The Epilogue to Harry Potter 7.
Out of all the books I've ever read, I've never been more annoyed at a book's epilogue. In fact I think this epilogue should be the reason that no books should ever have an epilogue. Am I happy that everyone lived happily ever after? Of course! But do I need to be told that. And c'mon Harry naming his son after Dumbledore and Snape. Ugh! How cliche. The book was flawless and then we have to deal with that. I know it's a kids book, but I wish I could take away that chapter.

3) Borat in all of his glory

I liked Borat a lot, I thought it was really funny, I just didn't like the nude wrestling scene in the hotel. If you saw the movie you understand. If you didn't...see the movie and you'll understand. (Yes the movie came out in '06, but I didn't see it until '07.)

4) Norbit
<strike>
Eddie Murphy use to be funny, but now he feels every movie he needs to put on a fat suit. Nutty Proffesor was hysterical. The Klumps had its moments. Norbit was just a waste of time, film, and money.</strike> 'Nuff said.

5) "Save the Dolphins, Save the world"

You know, as Heroes fan, everything was right with the world. Yeah because of the writers strike we only got 11 episodes for volume 2.

But it was a good 11 episodes. Peter Petrelli survived and had amnesia. Veronica Mars was shocking people. Sylar was up to his old shennigans. And poor Claire (Hayden Panettiere) just wanted to be a normal high school student (who drove a brand new Nissan Rogue).

And then Hayden had to ruin it for me, by trying to save the dolphins.
Hayden Crying

The girl who cannot be destroyed, does what any young starlet does with oodles of money and no more filming for Heroes because of an impending writers strike. She goes to Japan and forms a human wall between dolphins and Japanese fishermen.

D'uh!

When she emerged from the water she began to cry stating that, "One little baby dolphin stuck his head out and kinda looked at me and the thought that it's no longer with us is really hard to take."
Yes it's a sad image, but at the same time it's the fishermen's livlihood.

And she almost single-handily ruined my Heroes experience, because whenever I watched and she started to cry about something teenagerly and chaotic in her super-powered life, all I could think of is, "Man, she's thinking about dolphins again."

So that was 2007 folks. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see what parts of '08 I regret seeing.

(Why yes this is plagrized from my work blog)

I recently moved into a new place.

One of the many selling points, was that cable and internet are included in the rent, which makes it slightly more affordable and fantastic because I only have to write one check.

Except it’s not cable, it’s satellite tv. It’s not a bad thing, just different.

For instance. You have Comcast (or some other cable company) and you go to a friends house in another town or state and they share that cable company. All the channels are different. So you have to spend your time there (especially if it’s over a prolonged period of time like a week) getting to know the channels so you can quickly flip back and forth.

I know none of you will admit to it, but I know you are all thinking it to. It’s usually not that hard, but it is time consuming and a little bothersome.

So jumping from Comcast to Direct Tv was quite the adjustment. The channels aren’t the same at all. Not even close. MTV (yes I still watch it) use to be 28, now it’s like 435. I finally just learned that ESPN is 306.

But what satellite does give you is a huge heaping of specialized channels. Channels that show shows that have been long since canceled and almost forgotten.

My favorite has been the channel “Chiller.” For two reasons.

Tales From Crypt every weekday from 6-7 p.m.

Brimestone at 7 p.m.

Tales From the Crypt is legendary for being one of the first serial shows produced HBO and showcased award winning actors, directors, producers, writers and musicians in a 28 minute show. The 93 episodes were based on William Gaines classic 1950’s series of comics.

At the time it was first on, I remember being simply terrified of them, but now I can enjoy the campiness and throughly enjoy them, even the Crypt Keepers awful puns.

Brimestone was one of my favorite shows in the late 90’s. Peter Horton stars as a cop that killed the criminal that assaulted his wife and when he died he went to Hell. 15 years later, 113 demons escaped and Devil gives the cop a second chance to retrieve the souls and regain his humanity. Every demon is represented as a tattoo on his body, and when he exiles the demon (by taking out the eyes, since they are windows to the soul) the tattoo disappears.

Saddly, it suffered from my tv curse. When the show was first on, I sung its praises and wrote about how great it was, and later that year it was canceled (the same fate fell upon a show called Wonderland about a psych ward in a metro-hospital, that aired just once).

And although I haven’t gotten into it, Chiller also airs Twin Peaks every weeknight.

Seriously, after SciFi, ESPN, FX, and MTV, Chiller is my favorite channel.

Maybe it was the post-turkey tryptophan, but I've had some dreams that really have given me anxiety are are slightly scary.

Not nightmarishily scary, but shudder scary.

On Saturday, it was rats. Not a lot of them like in "The Last Crusade" and they weren't controlled by a guy like in "Willard."

There were just two of them, and they were eating off the floor.

But they weren't rabid, ravenous rats. They were just chilling and they had cartoonishly large round black noses. It wasn't enough for me to really question their existince, but enough for me to think, "Wow, that's weird."

But not nearly as weird as Sunday.

Saturday started off with a dream about high school. Except in this high school I had classes starting at 8 and it was like a ten class day. So actually it's reminscent of my college dream about always being late for class, or missing a class because I forgot I had it.

And the dream is basically me trying to remember what classes I had, and when I remember I don't go into the classes because I haven't been to them in over a month, and I already know I'm in trouble for not going, and I don't want to be embarassed when I show up and someone says, "Where have you been for a month?"

So I just wander around aimlessly and waiting for a class I recognize that I know I've been to.

The second half of the night on Sunday was just eery, and I don't remember the transition from the high school dream to this one.

The theme?

I was Chris Melloni's ghost.

Except Chris Melloni isn't dead.

The dream was this I was lying in bed thinking I was there. When I heard this voice. And then suddenly I was over the voices shoulder, it was a kid in a bellhop's uniform with a digital picture he had just taken. I looked up and saw nothing in the bed, but when I looked through his view finder I saw the face of a ghostly Chris Melloni. And I realize that I'm Chris Melloni, and suddenly I'm back in the bed and I feel like I'm trapped.

And the bellhop/ghost hunter asks me, "Are you there?" And I try to sit up but my body is stuck to the bed. And I remember from watching the show ghosthunters that it takes a lot of energy for a ghost to appear consciously so I stop struggling and just moan, "yes." And he asks me to tap out to yes and no questions.

And I don't remember what the questions were but I know I tapped once for no and three times for yes.

Sometimes I don't heart dreams.

This season of Heroes has been great.

Sometimes a second season of a show can be a make or break season. Lost for example, its second season took less of a sci-fi edge because ABC didn't want to "Buffy-size" it.

But Heroes has been able to keep up the intensity while introducing new characters and storylines. And almost flawlessly too. There are some hiccups here and there, but for the most part it's been a very entertaining season.

And despite Claire's desperate attempts to keep busy during the writers strike (which is the reason why this season looks like could end in two weeks, which is a shame, but hopefully it will end soon, because of selfish, selfish reasons....and I don't want to watch American Gladiators and Deal or No Deal on NBC come spring time), I have to say I'm happy to see that they aren't half-assing this half-season of Heroes.

Tonight's episode for example....

By shooting Noah, Heroes continues to take chances that no other primetime show will or has taken, since the first season of 24 or Lost. Last the writing has yet to become stale (unlike the acting of Ali Larter). What will happen? I don't want to hazard a guess, but I do know I was wrong.

I really wanted Bob and Noah to be brothers....and maybe they still will be, I think it would've been a kickass dynamic.

Do i think Noah is dead? Nope. Remember Bob has a quart worth of Claire's blood....and Heroes is willing to take chances, but I'm not sure in a half-season they are willing to make that much of a chance.

But it was still some great TV.

By the way....BSG Mini-series "Razor" premieres Saturday...so at least I'll be amused before Lost hits ABC, and I won't be completely without entertaining tv in the spring.

I have no problem with this, good for her she has interests outside acting.

My problem is that she was actually out in the middle of the ocean with the group cutting dolphins out of nets from Japanese fishermen.

I mean I like how she's using her popularity and money for good causes, but is it really neccesary to do this?

From the AP story:

"Fishermen on a boat approached the activists and ordered them to leave, shoving some of them with a long pole. There did not appear to be any injuries."
"This baby stuck its head out and kind of looked as us, and the thought that the baby is no longer with us is very difficult," Panettiere, who stars in the NBC show "Heroes," said after coming ashore."'

Hayden, I know your young, and that you've had a lot of success before your 19th birthday, BUT, you're an actress...leave the nutso activism to aging hippies and actors with no career (e.g. Woody Harrelson and Ed Begley Jr.).

As happy as I am to be out on my own, because of my hastey descsion to move out in a hurry and not wait until I had one more paycheck under my belt, money is a tad tight for a week or two...ok...for three or four weeks.

But I digress.

So I have to look for some quick ways to make quick bucks...legally of course. I don't have enough enough cans to redeem them and use the money for something useful. Right now my bottles would equal a bottle of soda, maybe two.

So I went through my cd/dvd collection and found a ton of cd's and two movies that I bought or got as gifts that I know I'll never watch nor care if I never see them again.

For example, there were eight cd's that I had bought during my days at Borders either during a CD sale or if I was depressed and went on a CD spending spree.

Yes I get depressed and I shop. Go ahead...make your jokes. I also compulsevely mange on comfort foods. It's not my fault that food and shopping fights the lonliness away.

Anyway, so I get about ten cd's and a box set of the first season of "Murder One."

I was going to go to Newbury Comics to resell the stuff, but then walked passed FYE and saw I could get cash there too, so I went to see what I could get.

I waited in line with my soon to be returned merchandise and sent up to the cashier with my pile of stuff and told the clerk, "I'd like to give you some used material."

He said ok, but a pimply young man next to him saw the amount of material and said in his best voice to not sound like he was eye-balling me, "i'll help him at the next regiester."

I suddenly realized, that although I owned all of this stuff, I looked like a guy trying to get some cash to get a quick high. When in actuality I need the quick cash to get gas.

So the first he does is look at the stuff, and the top two items are wet. This isn't because I soaked the material overnight in water, it's because it's pouring.

"Do you have any that aren't wet?"

"Dude, it's raining."

And he looks through them all and sees that they are all unopened.

"Do you have any that have already been open?"

"Nah. I know it looks bad. Trust me though this stuff is either stuff that I bought and never opened or gifts that I'll never open. I use to work at Borders, so I know how this looks, but trust me it's cool."

"It's ok man."

So it starts scanning in stuff and I get 10 for the box set and a few scattered dollars for the cd's. He then sees that I'm returning Kid A, and says, "Kid A is a great album."

'Oh no.' I think to myself. 'This kid is a Radiohead snob. No one ever told him that Kid A is full of obnoxious ambient sounds and he thinks it's a breakthrough album, he doesn't know that Radiohead's pinaccle is Ok Computer." And I was about to open my mouth to tell him so...but decied it wasn't worth it.

Throughout the rest of the transaction he's eyeing me up and I'm just smiling and making small talk, trying to convince him that I'm not a crack head, but realized as I was doing so I was just looking like more of a dope fiend, and less of that of a guy who needed 20 bucks to get half a tank of gas.

It turns out I got $30.50 cents, so folks, if you need cash and don't mind awkward glances from sales associates go to FYE. It can almost fill your tank.

With the exception of the bed and couch I bought when I moved into New Bedford, every other major piece of furniture was donated, so monies were saved on seating arrangements for guests.

And with the exception of some rugs and a tv stand that wasn't used by my father when he was in college, the place is practically done.

The first "quark" occured this morning when I went to take a shower and I had the lever over the red dot that indicated I should feel hot water, and instead received ice cold water. How cold? If this was 1922, I would be put in this water to break my fever. It turns out when the landlords put in the ...the....the....thing that you use to turn on the water (I want to say faucet, but the faucet is the spout the water comes out of...awesome...my brain freezes as I'm typing...maybe residule cold water effect) the didn't actually match it up with what direction you turn the knob to get the correct temperature.

So keep this in mind in case you take a shower in the new digs..."blue means cold."

I also met some of the local wildlife of North Plymouth...a large raccoon scurrying along my parking spot.
When I move in on Sunday, one of the things on my mind, is what should I hang on the walls.

I have a couple of pieces of art that are going to make the cut, like a screen painting of Converse sneakers, that an artist friend of mine made for a graduation gift for me.

I have a small painting I bought from a local artist that's called "Your saddness is beautiful" and I recognize the emo-ness of it, but it's a nice piece and I support local art.

I mean that stuff is naturally in.

But the next cut of decoration is harder..what makes an apartment a bachelor pad and not a dorm room?

For instance I have an obscenly large signed Anna Nalick cardboard poster, that I got when she came to Borders. It's defly being hung up some where prominent to show it off. Yeah I'm humble...but she's a pretty talented singer/songwriter....or she was...she hasn't come out with anything new recently.

Next an autograph Stephen Lynch poster that I got at one of his shows. He's funny and it's cool to have...but is it wall worthy? In the third tier with Mr. Lynch are autographed posters from some folk singer who came to borders and Matt....something the lead singer/songwriter of Aqualung, who has more of a following and put out more albums than Anna...but he's not a she...and not as cute as Anna. I also have a Foo Fighters hard poster...although not signed...but still pretty cool.

Fourth tier is a "Get Fuzzy" cut out I got a display from Borders...stupid...childish and will probrably get tossed. I can't help it though, Get Fuzzy is good stuff.

Fifth tier...and I"m not even sure if I have them anymore, but I have a collection of t-shirts from college (Bar Crawl T-shirts, My "jersey" from the Ski Club Softball team, and a website I worked for for about three months as a contributing writer) that I hung on the wall at my last place as my wall of fame. I think it's funny and cool...but do I hang them up? Keep them in storage? or burn them?

The choices need to be made.
